LETTER TO PARENTS

Dear Parents and Guardians,

With this letter I would like to introduce myself as the new Science teacher at West Hancock High School this year. I shall be teaching Basic Biology to the 9th grade, Advanced Biology to the 11th grade and Chemistry to the 12th grade. I am originally from India, and graduated as a Medical Doctor and ENT surgeon there. I subsequently completed an MBA and an MA (Teaching) in the U.S.  You will find more about me and the classes I will teach on my homepage.

On August 22nd, I would like to welcome you to the West Hancock Back-to-School night. I am looking forward to meeting you and showing you our texts and our classroom. Please attend if you can.

I am looking forward to working with you to provide your child the best secondary education possible.
Together we can encourage in your son or daughter work attitudes such as promptness, respect, and responsibility. I will also do my best in teaching to make sure that that the work your child does in school is meaningful, important, and related to the larger world of work. Please help your child understand that no one individual can be completely competent in all things; and try to provide at home a climate conducive to study.  The parent or guardian serves as the connecting link between home and school; I would also request you to encourage your child to participate in diverse experiences outside of school, including all of the extracurricular programs West Hancock has to offer.

Many parents ask about homework assignments. While there may be times when long-term assignments will take lots of time, there is a routine that I try to follow as closely as possible to insure that students benefit from their homework assignments. You can expect your child to do homework for their Science class every night from Monday through Thursday. I try to avoid assigning homework on weekends. The assignments are listed on the syllabus that students are required to keep in their notebooks, and are also on my homepage.

If you have any questions or if any problems arise, please contact me at school. I will be glad to speak with you if you just give me a call or send me an email.

I look forward to working with your child this year. I also look forward to meeting you and learning how I might be of assistance to you and your child.

Sincerely,

Dennis Dey
