Teaching Experience

Cardinal Community School District- 4045 Ashland Road, Eldon, IA 52554 (9/30/02 - 5/30/03)- As a 'Long-term Substitute' I taught 7th and 8th grade Math, as well as 7th grade Word Processing. I worked full time and had the same responsibilities as any other teacher. I planned and taught lessons, attended all faculty meetings and parent/teacher conferences. Besides being a facilitator for the learning of math, I also maitained a close connection with the parents of my students so that they could be continually informed of the progress and success of their child.

Student Teaching Experience

Student Teaching- Pekin Community Schools, Packwood, IA (3/04/02 - 5/24/02)- During my student teaching I taught 6-12 grade Art. Lessons included: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and some printmaking and computer art. My cooperating teacher was very influential in providing me with classroom management techniques and art resources with engaging activities.

Musical Skills: Drummer for 15 years with over 10 years of private training, professional musician for 4 years, involved in many musical groups throughout my life.

Activities and Honors

The following is a list of activities and honors that reflect my strong interest and great involvement in school and the community during my education. I would like to continue pursuing and assisting in similar areas within my teaching profession.

While attending Maharishi University of Management

  • Vice President of Student Government, 1998-99, Assisted the Student Body President and acted as a liaison between students and the University, helped improve the quality of life for students, and maintained communication between student government and University Administrators.
  • Manager of Student Union Cafe, 98-99, Oversaw and delegated responsibilities with regard to sales and cleaning management.
  • Public Speaking, 98, Selected for a team of five to do promotional speaking for the University in California at Universities such as U.C.L.A. and U.C. Santa Barbra, and in cities such as San Diego, Los Angeles, Pacific Palasades, and Orange County.

  • Senior Patrol Leader of Scout Troop for two years and Patrol Leader for one year (Troop 766, Bridgeton MO)
  • Attended first ever Missouri Fine Arts Academy- 1996, a three week art program at SMSU in Springfield, MO. Only 118 high school students from around the state were selected to attend based on their grades, recommendations, portfolios, and their talents in the fine arts.
  • As an aspect of my secondary school education, accomplished over 500 Community Service Hours beyond the required 50. Some of the activities include:
    • Bridgeton Day Camp conseling- during a 6week period I watched over a group of 15 kids 9-12 years old during the day.
    • Fifth Grade Camp counseling- 94-97, While maintaining school work, I was responsible for about eight boys twenty-four hours a day for a week.
    • Empty Bowls, 97- Empty Bowls is a fundraising project that originally began in the Detroit, Michigan area. Using the idea as my Eagle Scout Project, I organized the creating of 250 ceramic bowls made by students at my high school and an elementary school in the district. With a "Teens Care" grant and donations from organizations in the community, I held a soup and bread dinner that raised $1000 to be given to a Community Helping Ministry for the homeless. Individuals attending the dinner got to keep one of the bowls made. Pattonville High School has taken on the project as an annual event at the school.
