Unit Plan This is a Painting Unit for Art II: Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting. Sample Unit Assessments I will also be using class critiques as a form of assessment. I think it's really important for students to look at their work and the work of others to discuss the level of success achieved in the work. In this manner students will not only develop an artistic vocabulary, but will develop their ability to reflect, analyze, judge, and defend their personal opinions and feelings about the art. Thus each student gains a greater appreciation for art and a greater understanding and acceptance of the diverse thoughts and ideas presented in the class. Living in a multicultural society and being able to be a leader in todays world, students must be able to present their own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, but especially be willing to understand and accept those of others. The sample lessons provided are not pertaining to the unit, but they will give you a taste of the different types of lessons I've created and taught during my student teaching. Each lesson provides you with an example of student work or one that I've created. Along with having individual lessons I will also require students to maintain an on-going journal. Homework may include a practice drawing in the journal or doing some reflective writing about an experience or event in the students' life. I believe journals are an excellent way for students to enhance their artistic abilities and to develop creativity and writing skills. Students also tend to add more personal things to their journal that may not be brought out in the regular class assignments. From this, I would like to use the journal as a means for getting to know my students better, their interests, thoughts, talents, and then try to build upon these areas in art activities that are more engaging, fun, and connected to the students' lives. |
