Classroom
Standards and Procedures
Students
need to know what
behaviors are expected of them while the teacher is in class or out of
the
class for completing administrative procedures. Students
should know what to do when the bell rings,
what materials are
expected to be brought to class each day and how materials are to be
used
during the period will be discussed at the beginning of the academic
year.
Classroom
standards and procedures
will be determined through democratic
discussion
(mutual respect is mandatory in my class). I will make sure that every
point is
clear on the rules and procedures at the beginning of my class. Every
student
be committed for the practicality of the rules and procedures that we
have agreed
upon.
At
the begining of the academic year, my first step will be to
develop the classroom rules and procedures. In consultation with my
students we will decicide on the types of rules and procedurs that we
will all respect and be resposible for its implementation. I believe
that a classroom is analogous to a
community. As much as there are rules and regulations that are
governing each member of the community, so also is the classroom where
each student will be govenred by the rules of the classroom and the
school. Therefore, in the following tables, I am presenting
samples
of class room standards and procedures that I would like to consider
during our discussion in developing rules. At the beginning of my
student teaching, I was able to excercise some of the rules that
students
should recognize while I was teaching.
Joneses
have stated that, “teachers who take time early in the year to listen
to
students and to explain carefully the rationale underlying rules and
assignments are making a wise investment. This ultimately will
establish
teacher credibility and reduce the students’ tendencies to continue to
test the
teacher through out the year” (Joneses, p.248).
The standards and
procedures that
will be emphasized be in my class are listed in the following tables
(Table 1
and Table 2) respectively.

|
Consequences or benefits
|
|
Students
are required to be on time to class if a student is absent should
inform me.
|
If a student’s
lateness continues warning will be given. Need a
letter from parents for absentees.
|
|
Students
will bring the required educational materials to class.
|
If the required
materials are not brought to the class the student will be held
responsible for
his lagging behind.
|
|
Students
are not allowed to cheat either
their friends or the teacher.
|
Cheating will lead to
warning and may lead to
automatic report to the principal and parents will be informed.
|
|
Students
will be respectful of the teacher and other students.
|
Anyone who shows
respect to others will be respected.
|
|
Use
polite speech and body language.
|
Unkind teasing and impolite
behavior is unacceptable and may result in warning.
|
|
Follow
teacher’s direction immediately.
|
You will miss
an important concept and will have a
negative effect in your learning.
|
|
Talking
while the teacher is lecturing is forbidden.
|
This will distract
the attention of
both the teacher and students & it is not acceptable.
|
Rules
are posted in the classroom in sealed
plastic cover to protect from tear and wear. It should be on a wall
where it is
visible to all. Alternatively, rules are copied by students in to their
notebooks.

Procedures

Benefits
|
|
Raise your hand when
you want to ask or answer a question.
|
This will create
orderliness in the class.
|
|
Class starts and ends
in an orderly manner and you may change seats if your movement does not
affect others.
|
Learning is
facilitated without distraction.
|
|
Report to me for any inconvenience/ discomfort or
sickness while in the class.
|
I am there to help
and care for you and am concerned for your comfort in the class.
|
|
All laboratory
equipments should be cleaned and placed back after the laboratory
session is over.
|
The next activity
or class will start at ease.
|
Generally, I expect
that all my
students will abide by the rules and procedures we agreed upon at the
beginning
of the academic year. If the rules and procedures are not followed at
the level
of my expectation the steps required to correct inappropriate behavior
listed
below will be
implemented as desired. I am aware that
students can be expected to support rules and procedures that enhance
learning
only if the learning process and environment shows respect for students
and their
needs. Motivation is one factor that is
highly desirable for effective
learning and it is also a means through which I can understand the need
of my
students
to help them to learn.
