Dear Parents

I would like to introduce my self to you at the beginning of this academic year. I am a new teacher. My name is Girma G. Tessema. I am qualified to teach Biology in grades 9-12 and General Sciences in grades 7-8.

In this Academic year, I will be teaching biology in grade 9 and it is my pleasure to have your child in my class. I know that the role of parents is indispensable in supporting the achievement of the goals of education in this country. Therefore, we will all work together to produce citizens who will be responsible not only for their success in life but also for the success, achievement and fulfillment of the society. For this to happen, the biggest responsibility falls on the school and particularly on the teacher with considerable input from parents. Therefore, both of us will want to communicate with each other to discuss various issues that may arise during this academic year.

It is clear to educators that students need to be motivated to learn at the beginning of the academic year, and I will implement all the necessary options to develop interest in my class. It is my opinion that orderliness in a class is desirable and the first step toward order will be helping my students to be aware of the rules and procedures. We will initially discuss with each other why rules are required. Then there will be a chance for them to contribute to the type of rules and procedures that they should respect.

It is always advisable not violate the natural laws that governs the proper functioning of our plant, earth. However, man has been misusing the natural resources (deforestation and emission of dangerous chemicals to the atmosphere etc). Such activities have been the source of all problems on earth (e.g. floods,  global warming, hurricanes etc.). Therefore, similarly we all should be abide by the rules and procedurs of the school and classroom not to have any problem. If we do not respect the rules, it will be difficult  to maintain the teaching-learning environment in a peaceful and attractive way. Students, parents, teachers, and the school administartion will share the responsibilty in  sustaining the desired descipline in our school. Some of the rules and procedures in my class are:

  • Be in class on time.
  • Bring all needed materials to class.
  • Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings.
  • Obtain permission before speaking or leaving your seat.
  • Respect and be polite to all people.
  • Respect other people's property.
  • Inform parents and teachers when absent from class.
  • Follow and respect all school rules.

My email address is girmamariam@hotmail.com. Please contact me for any question and comment that you may want to forward to me. Similarly, I am kindly requesting at this time to let me know your telephone number so that I may communicate with you.

Generally, I expect that my students be responsible for themselves and also be responsible for their colleagues and the school. Transparency, consistency and caring will be the expression of my behavior. I believe that promoting the interest of any student will be the responsibility of teachers and parents.  I also believe that I will be a good teacher in motivating your child, so that he/she develops the knowledge with interest that springs from her/ his needs.

Sincerely

 Girma Tessema
