Introduction
Education has been
the basis of all human civilization and
it will remain as the sole source for producing citizens that are
useful to
themselves, the society and the nation. However, the means of gaining
knowledge has
been one sided through the time of antiquity. That
was simply feeding information without
considering the level of understanding of students. I believe that this
situation should start to improve now. Educators
should focus on enabling the learning potential of the youth through
close scrutiny of their interest and needs. Students
shoud be aware that their brain has an
enormous capacity to expand and they have all the capacity to learn
any subject.
The human mind is not
something to be filled with information rather it is an ocean
from where thoughts arise and
develop into
action. Students who are helped to develop their level of understanding
can learn anything, because well developed consciousness is the source
of all
knowledge. I will inform my students that, if
this potential
of the brain is used effectively and efficiently there will be no
barrier in their learning. It will be my responsibility, as a teacher,
to advise them to
take
care of
their mind and body and use it intelligently to learn the objects (to
be learnt
or known) and fulfill their needs. The school in general and a teacher
in
particular, should be able to present a supportive environment that
will
facilitate
the attainment of needs of students. According to Joneses (Book:
Comprehensive Classroom Management) some of the
needs of the students
include:
(Joneses, p. 56).
- Need
for diversity
- Need
for self expression and definition
- Need
to participate in school and community
- The
need for competence and achievement
- Need
for freedom
If the needs are not
fulfilled, it is unlikely that students
will be successful in their education. In my
classroom management plan, I am intending to show how these needs could
be
fulfilled through the discussion, in the context of the following
issues - (1) Classroom standards and
procedures (2) Strategy of
developing the relationship between
students and my-self and the
relationship
among the students themselves (3) Motivation
to learn (4) Discipline
(correcting inappropriate behavior).
