How to study ecosystems?
Cooperative learning

Welcome to my video web pages. In this part of my portfolio, I am presenting three video shows under the following subtitles.

1. Visiting a stream near Woodson high school
2. How to study ecosystems?
3. Cooperative learning

1. Visiting a stream

Students were taken to a stream near Woodson high school in Fairfax, Virginia. The objective of this visit was to help them observe some real characteristics of ecological systems. Brief introduction was given to the surrounding environment and discussed on the interdependence of abiotic and biotic factors. They were able to see examples of climax community, main river and its tributaries and standing and flowing water.

2. How to study ecosystems?

In this video show, students were introduced to the latest technology of studying ecosystems on earth. Remote sensing is an alternative and quick  form of acquiring information on ecological data from satellites set for this purpose. Students were motivated to become ecologists and remote sensing could be one area of specialization if they are interested. It minimizes the field vists and makes data collection easier compared to the classical method of data collection. The latter demands ecologists to spend much of their time out in the field.

3. Cooperatvie learning

Cooperative learning is a productive way of sharing knowledge as students were allowed to work together and solve problems through discussion. In this video, students were presenting in groups to the class the information they collected on biomes. This helped them to acquire the information quickly and also develop relationship. It was also a means of self-evaluation as every group was demonstrating a different way of organizing information and presentation.
