Michael Koren's Homepage

Life is a unified wholeness. Never deny the truth of worldly experience, but neither ignore the grace of the Divine from which it springs. Yield not the subtle, effervescent, innocent feeling of happines to the pressures of the world: hold it paramount and life will bow to you.

"There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer,
No disease that enough love will not heal,
No door that enough love will not open,
No gulf that enough love will not bridge,
No wall that enough love will not throw down,
No sin that enough love will not redeem.

It makes no difference
how deeply seated may be the trouble,
how great the mistake.

Sufficient realization of love
will resolve it all.

If only you could love enough,
You would be the happiest
and
most powerful being
in the world."

--Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

"If you are to be a healer, you must understand that the biggest difficulty facing people with a problem is rarely the problem itself, but the fear that nobody else understands it. . . ."

Welcome to my personal homepage. On this site I am developing a conceptual framework within which to organize and integrate my fundamental beliefs and attitude toward my life, including the basis of and manner in which I wish to live it. A consistent structure for the site is still being sorted out: any remaining moo's and/or blue beetles are formatting placeholders and will be removed in due course; some interpolation may still be needed in places. That said, anyone who wishes to participate in my process of Self-discovery is welcome to follow the development of this page, and I hope that it may inspire those who read it to observe and follow their own innermost wisdom of life. This will be an ongoing process, so please join with me in appreciating the flow of the unfoldment of knowledge of the total value of life.

Thou art that Totality--awaken to That.

All glory to the Divine Master.

    Jai Guru Dev.

My Life Map

Under my presidentship, my Nature creates and administers the Universe.

"Man's life is so highly evolved that he enjoys freedom of action in nature. This enables him to live in any way he desires, either for good or for evil. As he behaves, so he receives. When the good increases in life and the positive forces tend to overbalance the normal state of existence, then the process of dharma, restoring equilibrium, results in feelings of happiness in the heart and satisfaction in the mind. . . . [A] high degree of concentration of positive forces fails to maintain life in its normal state. The life of an individual under the influence of increasing positive forces enters into a field of increasing happiness and is eventually transformed into bliss-consciousness, in which state it gains the status of cosmic existence, eternal life."
--Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the Bhagavad-Gita: A New Translation and Commentary, verse 1.1, commentary

Acknowledgement and Statement of Intent

Knowledge is different in different states of consciousness.

"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be."
--Maharishi Patanjali, from an organic wintermints tin

The ideas laid out herein represent my synthesis of concepts and values that I have found to be meaningful in the course of my individual evolution, organized in order to help me consciously define and create on a continuing basis the life I wish to live--as a human being at this time on this planet and as the eternal, unbounded, universal Being which is my true nature, and from which platform I ultimately direct and coordinate all the circumstances and activity of this life. I have chosen to present them in this format on the internet as a formal declaration of my present intention for my life to the Universe and in the hope that they may someday prove useful to others, either those who may be following a similar path of evolution to mine or those whose own path may demand understanding of the myriad ways in which human life seeks to expand its range of experience and understanding of the wider field of existence in which we  are playing together.

This expression is not intended to present a plan of life which necessarily applies to anyone else reading it; rather, it is offered as a point of comparison against which the play of life may measure, define, evaluate, and choose for itself that which satisfies its own purpose in the ongoing shared dance of our collective existence. Guidance may be found by those seeking it for the development of any phase of their own lives in the words and teachings of those realized individuals who have walked the earth in every age, sharing their great personal awareness and experience of the reality of the living wholeness of life with all those willing to utilize their wisdom to bring eternal fulfillment in divine grace to their lives on earth.

Only a soul which has realized, through its own experience of its inner reality, its true nature--the profound truth and deep significance of its true status as the source and fabric of the cosmic intelligence upholding universal existence--has the breadth and depth of understanding and the competency of action to engineer the perfect circumstances for the unfoldment of perfection in the lives of others. I offer my greatest gratitude to the source of the greatest wisdom that I have received in this life, His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, whose teachings are cited frequently throughout this page, as well as the innumerable other sources of wisdom through which the course of my personal life has been continually blessed, and for which I am eternally grateful.

Any words that I write are inevitably an expression of my own individual level of consciousness, the influence of which on the many diverse levels of creation I cannot as an individual hope to comprehend fully. There are innumerable ways in which I could organize and present the principles and ideas which guide my life, and innumerable other angles and outlooks on life of which I cannot even conceive. But, in essence, my Being contains all of them, and it is a joy to continually add my own re-expressions of the highest principles of life that I understand, carefully selected to inspire the maximum fulfillment and upliftment I am competent to offer to myself and others through their expression, to the timeless ocean of eternal wisdom passed down by the greatest masters throughout time.

It is a source of great personal fulfillment and evolution for me to choose to participate in life at the grandest and richest levels that I know and to share the expansion of the boundaries of those levels with my fellow human beings. I bow down to the traditions of knowledge in the world which have preserved the wisdom that can raise the life of every person on earth to a level befitting its natural dignity, grace, and abundance in its own cosmic intelligence. This wisdom, divinely bestowed, is alone capable of providing the intellectual and experiential awareness that will transform the limited consciousness of the vast majority of the world population and raise it to a level where each person will truly support and nourish the life of every other being in the universe. I offer the level of development that I may have attained to Maharishi and the holy tradition of Vedic masters for the benefit of mankind.

Purpose

Established in Being, perform action.

"You have control over action alone, never over its fruits. Live not for the fruits of action, nor attach yourself to inaction. . . . Therefore, remaining unattached, always do the action worthy of performance. Engaging in action truly unattached, man attains to the Supreme."
--Bhagavad-Gita, verses 2.47 and 3.19, translated by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Supreme integration of life is the goal of this plan for the rapid development of all areas of my life in peace, bliss, and fulfillment. Integration demands the breadth of awareness and unity of purpose which can manage every aspect of life on the ground of wholeness, so that all fields of life are absolutely nourishing and supporting to one another and bring maximum success to every stream of behavior. Action at this level of wholeness can only come from an uncompromising simplicity of awareness, which admits only the effortless flow of right action; the unceasing but all-encompassing dedication to beauty, truth, and grace in every phase of activity, to ensure continual progress and advancement of life, and an overriding trust in God to manage all the yet unseen influences in one's life, so that each step of evolution is structured in the fullness of knowing that all is taken care of in the most efficient and rewarding way. Such purity of action is cultured spontaneously through the experience of one's natural inner divinity and expressed in the integrated life. The power of purity develops the full potential of the heart and mind and brings unconditional peace, compassion, and gratitude to the individual while structuring harmony and coherence in the surroundings for the fastest growth of happiness and fulfillment at every level of individual and collective experience.

The stable, unchanging basis of life expresses itself in the orderly progression of the dynamic cycles of change in the world. I will explore the continually refining picture of my awareness and intentions for my life at every level in the categories laid out below. This dynamic plan for my life will be developed and refined over time to become increasingly more integrated, coherent, and powerful as my comprehension expands and my life unfolds.

My Core Values

The world is as you are.

"To get a human heart is a rare thing--make full use of it. There are four million kinds of lives which a soul can gather after that--one gets a chance to be human, to get a human body. Therefore, one should not waste this chance. Every second in a human life is very valuable. If you don't value this, then you will have nothing in hand and you will weep in the end. Because you are human, God has given you the power to think and decide what is good and what is bad. Therefore, you can do the best possible kind of action. You should never consider yourself weak or a fallen creature. Whatever may have happened up to now may be because you didn't know, but now be careful. After getting a human body, if you don't reach God, then you have sold a diamond at the price of spinach."
--Shri Guru Dev, His Divinity Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, Maharishi's master

For those who are established in the singularity of fully awake, self-referral consciousness, Brahma, the Creator--the infinite organizing power of Natural Law--becomes the charioteer of all activity.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? . . . [Y]our heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

"Purity follows from meditation in proportion to practice."

Action Plan

The basis of life

Outer is based on inner.

harmlessness quote on CC

Experience - Knowledge is structured in consciousness.

"This is the glory of God-consciousness in man's life, a glory beyond the excellence reached through austerity or knowledge or action."
--Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the Bhagavad-Gita: A New Translation and Commentary, verse 6.46, commentary

Understanding - Where there is absolute alertness, there is victory.

"The verses of the Veda exist in the collapse of fullness (the kshara of 'A') in the transcendental field, the Self,
In which reside all the devas, the impulses of creative intelligence, the laws of nature responsible for the whole manifest universe.
He whose awareness is not open to this field, what can the verses accomplish for him?
Those who know this level of reality are established in evenness, wholeness of life."
--Rk Veda 1.164.39

Friendship and behavior

I share my integration.

"Vedic definition of a man of God: Softer than a flower where kindness is concerned. Stronger than thunder where principles are at stake."
--Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Teaching

I am to them as they are to me.

"Fortunate are they whose minds are distressed for the misfortunes of others. More fortunate still are they who are able to relieve the misfortunes of others, themselves remaining undisturbed."
--Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the Bhagavad-Gita: A New Translation and Commentary, verse 1.47, commentary

Activity

Taking recourse to my own self-referral Nature, I create again and again.

"Wise are those who understand the nature of a path from beginning to end before they enter upon it, and wiser still are they who take a short cut to accomplish the goal."
--Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the Bhagavad-Gita: A New Translation and Commentary, verse 6.37, commentary

Environment

I am the Universe.

"Aspire for as much knowledge as possible as soon as possible. With more knowledge there will be more bliss. With total knowledge there will be total bliss. So go for total knowledge and you will never fail in your efforts or aspirations in life--and this is just the world we want to create for everyone born on earth. So let's aspire for that. Let's raise ourselves to enlightenment--and let's create an enlightened world around us. And let's do it quickly without delay."
--Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, press conference, April 2, 2004, Los Angeles

Beauty

Functionality

Harmony and Coherence - The individual is cosmic.

World Peace - The world is my family.

Fullness of life

That is full; this is full. From fullness, fullness comes out. Taking fullness from fullness, what remains is fullness.

The fulfillment of one moment is never sufficient to satisfy the thirst for fulfillment of the next.  (. . .)
