Introduction

Welcome to my digital portfolio. I hope that through the lesson plans, student work, assessments, the video, and especially through my philosophy of education and classroom management materials you will be able to get a better sense of the direction I am headed towards as a classroom facilitator. I say facilitator rather than teacher, because I would be most interested in a position where I could implement cooperative learning.

I have had my own classroom for two years now, and have been involved in various other classroom settings, and am just now finishing with my masters in education. I have finished my PRAXIS I & II requirements and will be obtaining my masters in Education in the summer of 2007 and my Iowa Teachers Certification later in the summer or fall.

I very much enjoy the challenge of reaching students of diverse abilities, and the 10th grade biology curriculum I have been working on attempts to better meet the needs of both gifted students as well as underachievers. Another area within this curriculum that I am working on is in weighting group vs. individual grades to find a balance that enables students to feel that everyone is equitably treated. I believe that it is crucial that the curriculum encourages each student to feel a challenge, but that allows each to be successful.

I moved to Fairfield Iowa after living and teaching in Hawaii and plan to stay in this community indefinitely. Please don't hesitate to use the link in my references page to contact me if you believe I might be a good fit for your school.

Thank you and Aloha,
Sharon Surratt
